Iconic structure at the Southernmost Tip of Africa

The Easter holidays are upon us and for those of you that weren’t lucky enough to visit our beautiful area over the December holidays, you are in for a surprise! The Southernmost Tip of Africa now has a stunning new Iconic structure.  The new icon was completed late last year and has already received hundreds of visitors in L’Aguhas.

The new addition is a circular structure with steel sheets that shows the four directions of the compass – each one indicating where the northern, southern, eastern and western points of the continent are located. The design team, which includes famous land artist Strijdom van der Merwe, has put a lot of research and effort into ensuring that popular landmarks found across the African continent are included in the structure.  This includes landmarks like Kilimanjaro, the Drakensberg Mountain Range, Table Mountain and the Namib Dunes.

The new addition is funded by the Department of Tourism as part of its Social Responsibility Implementation Programme. In collaboration with SANParks, the project also includes the reconstruction and paving of a stretch of the road, realignment of the boardwalk and rehabilitation of the terrain – as per signage found on site.

Make visiting the new Iconic structure at the Southernmost Tip of Africa a must this holiday!
