Boschrivier Wine Cellars

About Boschrivier Wine Cellars

The farms belonging to Dr. NJT De Villiers lie in the heart of the Overberg. Situated at the foot of the Klein River Mountain range in the picturesque Akkedisberg Valley on the R326 (17km from Stanford and 35km from Caledon). In 1998 the first vines were planted in the De Villiers family vineyards in virgin shale soils in one of the finest terroirs of the Overberg. Three hectares of Shiraz, six hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and three hectares of Shiraz bush have since been planted. The mild climatic conditions, unique territory and guidance from top wine consultant Mike Dobrovic have ensured that high-quality grapes are grown along with superb wine production.

The De Villiers family set foot on South African soil in May 1689. They embraced the wine industry, which was founded in 1659, and has since striven to perfect the art of viticulture and winemaking.  Nicolaas Johannes Theodorus (Ficky) is the third generation of the De Villiers family to continue this legacy at Boschrivier. Boschrivier Wines is a true competitor in the wine industry that lives up to its motto: la main a l’ oevre... hand at work.
